Photography was something I wanted to do for a long time, but never quite got around too. At the end of 2018, I purchased my first DSLR camera, but it wasn’t until the pandemic started that I really had time to devote to learning how to use the camera, what a RAW file was or how to edit in Lightroom. When I first heard of GRIPS, I didn’t think I was good enough to join. It was only when I met someone with a connection to the club who encouraged me to join and assured me that people of all experience levels and abilities are welcome that I finally did. I’ve been a member since 2021, and was the Outings Chair for 2022-2024 before taking over as Treasurer.
For me photography is a sanctuary. It’s a mindful practice that takes me out of my head and keeps me in the moment. It allows me to see the world in new and wonderful ways and to get stopped in my tracks by the ordinary but stunning beauty around us. The focus of my photography thus far is on intentional camera movement and nature – mostly landscapes and flowers.
